Engineering Philosophy

Surgical Precision.
Zero Data Loss.

Splitting a PDF sounds simple, but extracting a single page without breaking its internal dependencies is complex. We don't just "cut" the file; we surgically extract the page tree nodes.

Using PyMuPDF's advanced document structure manipulation, we copy the specific page dictionaries to a new PDF object. This ensures that resources like fonts and images used on that page are carried over, but unused resources from other pages are stripped away.

The result is a smaller, optimized file that contains exactly what you selected, with no loss in quality or bloated metadata.

Why Split a PDF?

Large PDF documents are often unwieldy. Maybe you only need one chapter from a textbook, or a specific invoice from a yearly report. Splitting the PDF allows you to save and share only what matters.

Our tool creates a new PDF file containing exactly the page range you specify, keeping the file size small and focused.

Best Practices

  • Check Page Numbers: Always double check the page numbers in your PDF viewer before splitting, as they might differ from the printed folio numbers.
  • File Size: Splitting a very large file is a great way to reduce size if you only need a small section.
  • Combine Later: You can use our Merge PDF tool to recombine different extracted parts in a new order.

Common Questions

How do I extract a single page?
Just enter the same page number in both the 'Start' and 'End' fields (e.g. Start: 5, End: 5).
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
No, you must unlock it first. Use our PDF Unlock tool to remove the password.
Will the quality decrease?
No. We copy the exact page data to the new file. Quality, fonts, and images remain 100% identical.
Can I extract multiple non-continuous ranges?
Currently, we support one range at a time (e.g. 1-10). To extract multiple ranges, perform the split twice and then merge them.
